An Introduction to Playing the Limehouse Laces Way

At Limehouse Laces, we are dedicated to developing well-rounded, intelligent, and motivated players who embody versatility, positional awareness, and a deep understanding of the game. Our philosophy emphasises independent decision-making, enjoyment, and resilience, fostering a positive and supportive environment. We champion continuous improvement and lifelong learning. Recognizing that true development is a long-term process, we prioritise long-term outcomes over short-term victories. By instilling these values, we aim to cultivate not only exceptional footballers but also individuals who are always striving to be their best selves and contributing to the success of our team in the long run.

The U11s play in the Capital Girls League.  This is a 7v7 home and away league.

What girls learn in the U11s Development Phase

At Limehouse Laces, our early-stage football training focuses on developing well-rounded players who embody our core values.

Football Skills and Principles:

  • Positioning and Formations: Players experience all positions on the pitch, understanding the fluidity of role-swapping and the strategic advantages of different formations. They master set plays such as goal kicks, kick-offs, corners, and free kicks.

  • In Possession: We emphasise ball mastery, technical improvement, maintaining connections with teammates, and creatively retaining possession to break down defence. We expect players to be strong but not to rely on brute force. Players learn the attacking principles creativity, creating space, supporting teammates, movement, and penetration.

  • Out of Possession: Training focuses on positive, enthusiastic defending. Players grasp defensive principles such as pressing, delaying, maintaining compactness, cover and balance, and being patient. They also master various defensive techniques and work on regaining possession effectively.

  • Transition: Quick, instinctive decision-making is crucial. Players are taught to manage transitions effectively, whether attacking or defending, capitalizing on opportunities while disrupting opponents' momentum.

Social and Psychological Skills:

  • Fun and Friendship: We create an enjoyable environment that fosters lasting friendships and a love for the game.

  • Resilience: Players learn to handle setbacks and view mistakes as valuable lessons for improvement.

  • Responsibility: Emphasis is placed on personal accountability, reliability, and learning from errors, ensuring mutual support among teammates.

  • Respect: By treating others with respect, players build self-confidence and contribute to a supportive, cohesive team atmosphere.

Club Philosophy:

Our philosophy is rooted in long-term development, focusing on nurturing intelligent, versatile players who understand the game deeply. We promote a culture of continuous improvement, inspiring players to be their best selves and contribute to the team’s success.

Social Commitment:

We are dedicated to creating a supportive, inclusive community where every player feels valued. By embodying our values on and off the pitch, we ensure that football is a game for everyone, fostering a strong sense of belonging and connection.
